General Assembly

The last General Assembly resolution on the situation of human rights in Sudan was adopted on 18 December 2002: RES 57/230 (Voting was 80 to 62 with 33 abstentions).

Human Rights Council

On 24 September 2008, in a resolution adopted by consensus on the situation of human rights in Sudan the Council acknowledged the progress made in implementing the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the steps taken by the Government of Sudan to strengthen the human rights legal and institutional framework. It expressed deep concern at the overall situation of human rights in Sudan and decided to extend until June 2009 the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Sudan. Sudan spoke as a concerned country.
