The Law of prisoners of war

This research programme began in October 2007 with the support of the Swiss National Science Foundation. It is carried out under the direction of Prof. Robert Kolb and Prof. Vincent Chetail and Prof. Catherine Maia based on an empirical analysis of the main international armed conflicts that have occurred since the adoption of Geneva Convention III relative to the treatment of prisoners of war

The objective of this research project is to proceed to a systematic evaluation of the Geneva Convention III in order to better understand the relevance and limits of the contemporary protection regime of prisoners of war. This research project will result in the publication of a monograph in French by Bruylant in the Academy collection in 2011.
