Eric Steinmyller is a consultant and trainer on international humanitarian law (IHL) and maritime law enforcement issues in military and civil academies.

He spent almost all his career in the French Armed Forces, exercising key responsibilities in the management of large teams at sea and onshore, crisis management (sea rescue, environment protection, drug trafficking, counter-piracy, counter-proliferation), IHL and international relations. He was notably Head of the Law of Armed Conflict Section at the French Ministry of Defence and Military Adviser to the Ambassador of France to the United Nations (UN) Conference on Disarmament.

In 2012, he was the project team leader in charge of founding a new military academy, L’Ecole des commissaires des armées in Salon-de-Provence. He quitted the active duty in 2013 with the rank of Commissaire en chef des Armées– Marine (Navy Captain) to take the position of Security and Safety Manager in a shipping company based in Geneva whose vessels work for the oil-offshore industry in the Gulf of Guinea. 

Since 2016, he is working as an International Expert for the European Union, the UN, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the International Committee of the Red Cross and private companies.

Eric Steinmyller holds an MBA as well as a Master in Law of the Environment and a master in Business Law. He is Knight of the Legion of Honour, of the Merit and of the Maritime Merit.
