Event to Honour Professor Marco Sassòli on the Occasion of his Retirement

On June 14, 2024, we will honour the career of Professor Marco Sassòli with a full day of events at the University of Geneva (Uni Mail MR380), organised in partnership with the University of Geneva (Law Faculty and Department of public international law and international organization) and Henry Dunant Prize Foundation. This event will pay tribute to his rich career as a beloved professor and dedicated humanitarian practitioner.

This joyful celebration will consist of a day of panels, presentations and role plays designed to show the profound impact Professor Sassòli has made during his career. Panelists will include academics/colleagues, including from abroad, humanitarian practitioners, and representatives of an entire generation of humanitarian lawyers trained by Professor Sassòli. The event will include:

• A high-level panel on IHL in the context of contemporary armed conflicts
• Presentations and discussions highlighting Professor Sassòli's exceptional pedagogical skills and original methods, the new doctrinal approaches he supported, as well as the success of his double career, not only as an academic but also as a humanitarian practitioner and active member of civil society.
• The presentation of the 2024 Henry Dunant Field Prize to Professor Sassòli
• The official farewell lecture given by Professor Sassòli, preceded by a laudatio from the Faculty of the University of Geneva / Geneva Academy
