While the digital age offers unique opportunities to strengthen human rights implementation and monitoring, it also poses unique challenges in ensuring that states and businesses respect and protect our rights in the digital space. We aim to contribute to current discussions, policy processes and standard-setting in Geneva and beyond by providing a space for the exchange of ideas to draw connections, ensure complementarity and avoid duplication.

In the framework of the Geneva Human Rights Platform, the Geneva Academy co-hosted with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights a consultation between the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, Clément Voule, and delegates from civil society organizations and NGOs.

We are a partner of the Human Rights, Big Data and Technology Project, housed at the University of Essex’s Human Rights Centre, which aims to map and analyse the human rights challenges and opportunities presented by the use of big data and associated technologies. It notably examines whether fundamental human rights concepts and approaches need to be updated and adapted to meet the new realities of the digital age.
