Fulya Batur

Dr Fulya Batur is an Associate Research Fellow at the Geneva Academy. She conducts research on the rights of peasants, more particularly on the rights to seeds.

Her expertise and publications relate to the conservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity, access and benefit-sharing regimes on genetic resources, the protection of traditional knowledge, seed marketing rules, intellectual property regimes on seeds, with a regional focus on the European Union (EU), including the EU’s external policy.

Prior to joining the Geneva Academy, Dr Batur was affiliated with the Centre for the Philosophy of Law of the University of Louvain in Belgium, and has worked as a legal expert for the Austrian seed savers association Arche Noah. She has also worked as a consultant for numerous associations active in seeds, such as the Association for Plant Breeding for the Benefit of Society (APBREBES), Brot fur die Welt and HEKS, the European Coordination Let’s Liberate Diversity (EC-LLD), and the Gaia Foundation’s Seed Sovereignty Programme.

Dr Batur holds a PhD and a BA in Law from the University of Louvain (Belgium), and a Masters in Public International Law from University College London (United Kingdom).
